Will Homeowners Insurance Cover A Civil Lawsuit? (Lubbock, TX)

With lawsuits becoming more frequent. Over recent years, many homeowners want to know if a home insurance policy provides protection against being sued in a civil proceeding. Now, the answer to this question really depends entirely on the details of your particular insurance policy. While many general home insurance plans offer some amount of liability coverage, the amount of coverage can vary. And it is worth noting that if you’re still paying off your mortgage, your bank may require you to have a certain amount of liability coverage in your policy to make sure that you are fully affected from litigation. It is definitely wise to include at least some liability coverage in your home insurance policy and it’s also a good idea to consider an umbrella policy which will further increase the coverage limits for additional details on how to ensure your home insurance policy provides proper liability protection for you and your family, speak with your insurance agent before making any final policy choices.

Can Homeowners Insurance Be Paid Monthly? (Lubbock, TX)

You know, I have to say pretty often home insurance policies are quoted from carriers for an entire year and this leaves so many homeowners wondering if they can pay their premiums monthly. Now, I’ll tell you the answer is usually yes. Ok. With most home insurance policies, you can choose to pay premiums on a monthly basis rather than paying for the whole year upfront. Uh, but there can be some complications when it comes to a mortgage though. And that’s because a lot of banks pay the home insurance automatically from an escrow account. But even if you are still paying off your mortgage, you can change carriers if you want. Uh, also I want you to note that many carriers will offer a lower overall price on home insurance if you pay for the entire year upfront rather than monthly. So if you want, you know, a little bit of extra savings and can swing it, then that is definitely the way to go. And as always, if you have questions about how to handle your home insurance, then set aside some time to talk it over with your insurance agent.

How to Offset Higher Deductibles on Homeowners Policies (Lubbock, TX)

Hi, this is Jeff Shropshire with the Shropshire Agency! Today, I’d like to talk to you and offer a solution on how can you help offset these higher deductibles we’re seeing on our homeowners policies.

Here in our area, we’re seeing many of our wind and hail deductibles going from 1% to 2%. We’re also seeing the strategy of people raising their other deductibles on their homeowners policies to help save on premium.

Well, what happens when you have the claim and now you have to pay the deductible? Well, we have a solution here at the Shropshire Agency that can help offset those extra out of pocket expenses, and it’s our home protection plan!

This is not insurance, it’s separate plans that we have for home and autos. And one of the features of the plan for the home is that it will help reimburse you up to $2500 to pay back a deductible. You can use this once for every 12 month period of time.

This can be really helpful if you have a hill claim, a water claim, or a fire claim, and it can really put the money back into your pocket because these deductibles can be quite expensive.

You can find the home plan as well as the auto plan at Shropshireinsurance.com and then just click on protection plans.

Also, you can purchase this directly off of our website; When you open up the flyer, scroll down to the bottom, and when you see the QR code, you can just sign up for either one or both plans.

And if you have questions, do call us here at the Shropshire Agency.

What is a Ransomware Attack? – Lubbock TX

Hi, this is Jeff Shropshire with Shropshire Insurance Today I’m going to talk to you about ransomware and the world of cyber crime. Ransomware is still a very prevalent risk and very damaging to our industry.
Ransomware is when an individual or syndicate breaks into your system or puts a virus into your system that actually locks down your access to your data. In so particular to where they can go in and watch you over a period of time to find out what data on your system is the most valuable to you. And once they determine that, that is the information that they’ll capture and restrict from your access. Unless, of course, you’re willing to pay a ransom through monetary means, whether it’s cash or Bitcoin or any other type of cryptocurrency. These schemes are very devious, they happen through emails and basically looking for any situation that can get into your system to find out this information to keep you from it.
I found out that just since 2018, the amount of ransomware crimes that have taken place have increased by over 350%. Then in last year, 2021 alone damages ranged in the upwards of $20 billion from the effects of ransomware. And that’s not only just paying the ransoms, that’s the damages to your computers, your hardware, the work you have to do to make sure to prevent another attack from happening. So listen, you need cyber insurance, but you also need a partner who can help give you other solutions other than just cyber insurance. And that’s what the Shropshire Agency can do. Please call us and let us help protect your business and your data from crimes such as ransomware.

What is Social Engineering? – Lubbock TX

Hi, this is Jeff Shropshire with Shropshire Insurance. I have been asked today to explain to you about what social engineering is the threat in regards to Cyber Insurance. Social engineering is right now one of the biggest threats to every single business because it involves emails and misdirection. Social engineering means when an employee or a person is misled into basically transferring or paying monies or paying a bill that looks really real, but the money doesn’t go where it’s supposed to go.
An example of that that we see happening around here in our world is people are getting in offices, bogus emails that look like they’re coming from management or owners of businesses, and they look legit. The sender’s email looks good, everything looks good. It says, “Hey, this bill hadn’t been paid,” or, “Please pay this invoice.” The employee looks at it, clicks on it, pays the invoice, money’s disappearing, going places that it shouldn’t go. It’s a horrible exposure. It’s happening to so many people right now. You need to make sure you have proper procedures in place to make sure that you’re paying your invoices correctly. I always recommend never pay off of an email. Log on directly if you’re used to paying bills directly. Call, verify the email, make sure everything’s right, but also you need cyber insurance and you need a specialist who can help you with that and Shropshire Insurance is here to do that for you. So give us a call today.
